WritingTool is free and open-source software. Anyone can download it for free, improve it and develop it further.

WritingTool 26.7 was released on July 23, 2026.

The version can be downloaded here.

WritingTool requires Java version 17 or higher now. Detailed descriptions of the requirements can be found here.

Starting with version 26.7, only LibreOffice 24.2 or higher is supported.

Since version 26.1, OpenOffice is no longer supported by WritingTool. However, OpenOffice users can use WritingToolLight.
