The "Text" tab is only displayed if an AI text model is activated in the "AI support" tab in the options.
Basically, text editing by AI within WritingTool is intended in such a way that an instruction is applied to a paragraph (Text to be edited) (examples: revise the following text grammatically, translate the following text into English, spell out the following text, expand the following text, etc.).
If the "Text to be edited" field is empty, the instruction is executed without reference to a text (examples: write a story about a pink dog, describe a sunset behind a mountain, etc.)
The result is written in the "AI generated text" field and can be edited from there.
Note: The quality of the functionality depends on the AI model used.
Since WT 1.1, two tabs are offered:
- Paragraph editing
- Direct instruction
The following fields are provided for Paragraph editing (or WT 1.0):
- Instruction: A new instruction can be entered here, or one of the last twenty instructions can be used repeatedly via the selection list.
- Text to be edited: The paragraph on which the cursor is positioned in the document when the dialog is called is automatically entered here.
Note: The text in the field can be changed or deleted by the user.
The following field is provided for Direct instruction (only WT 1.1):
- Instruction: Any instruction can be entered here without reference to a paragraph.
AI generated text: The text generated by the AI based on the instruction is written in this field.
Note: The text in the field can be changed by the user for further use.
Execute instruction: When you click on this button, the instruction is executed. It refers to the "Text to be edited" field, which usually contains the text of the paragraph. If the "Text to be edited" field does not contain any text, the instruction stands alone.
Create Image: An image is generated based on the text entered. This can be used, for example, to illustrate a passage of text. When you click on this button, the following process is triggered (since WT 1.1):
- If the AI generated text field is not empty, this is used as the source text. If not, the Text to be edited field is used under the Paragraph editing tab, or the Instruction field is used under the Direct instruction tab.
- If the text language is not English, the text is translated into English.
- The English text is passed on to the AI (text to image).
- The system switches to the Images tab (the English text is adopted there as an instruction). The image is displayed.
Note: The button is only active if an image model has been entered in the options.
Reset: The text of the paragraph on which the cursor is positioned is reloaded into the "Text to be edited" field.
Delete Text: The content of the "Text to be edited" field is deleted.
Copy Result: The content of the "AI generated text" field is written into the "Text to be edited" field. It can then be edited from there by another instruction.
Undo: The result of the second-to-last AI edit is loaded back into the "AI generated text" field.
Add to Paragraph: In Writer, the text in the "AI generated text" field is inserted at the cursor location in the document. In Impress, a new shape is inserted that contains the text.
Override Paragraph: The paragraph of the document on which the cursor is positioned is overwritten with the text in the "AI generated text" field (this functionality is not available for Impress).
AI creativity: The higher this value is set, the less predictable the results are. If the value is set to 0, the same results are always displayed for the same query.
Note: For example, for grammatical or stylistic checks, a smaller value should be specified, and for instructions on freely generating a text passage, a larger value should be specified.
