In principle, WritingTool supports any OpenAI-like interface. However, the focus of WritingTool is on local computers or on private, company or government networks.

An open-source AI project that enables the use of local installations is LocalAI (https://localai.io/). This project allows the installation of AI servers on computers with relatively simple hardware. Smaller AI models can even be operated without GPU support if you are satisfied with low performance (especially in terms of response speed). Excellent results were achieved with a relatively simple graphics card (Nvidia RTX 2060 or Nvidia RTX 3060).

Installation instructions and descriptions of the requirements can be found at https://localai.io/.

The "meta-llama-3.1-8b-instruct" model was primarily used to test automatic error correction and manual text editing. The "dreamshaper" model was used to generate images.

The tests so far have been carried out mainly in German and to a much lesser extent in English.

More testers are urgently needed for both English and all other languages. Java developers are also required for development work for languages other than English and German to implement the appropriate rules for converting the AI results in underlined matches.
