WritingTool extends LibreOffice's text editing functionality with a writing assistant. It is designed for creating and editing extensive texts (e.g., for literature, science, and business). WritingTool offers the following functionality:

• Automatic spelling and grammar checking in the background, powered by LanguageTool. WritingTool also checks across paragraph boundaries (unlike internal checks).

• Use of additional optional rules for grammar and style checking (easily adjustable by the user).

• Manual spelling and grammar checks not only for Writer, but also for Impress and Calc.

• Statistical analysis of texts to obtain tips on improving writing style.

• AI support for automatic background checks, manual editing of paragraphs, creation of texts and images.

WritingTool can be used offline and on networks. The following variants are possible (see Help):

• By default, WritingTool runs on the local computer. A network connection is not required. No data is exchanged over the network.

• The free central server of LanguageTool GmbH can be used for grammar checking.

• For grammar checking with AI support, the paid premium server of LanguageTool GmbH can be used (username and API key are required).

• If available, a LanguageTool server in a corporate, government, or private network can be used for grammar checking.

• Optionally, access to a local or network-based AI server can be configured to support grammar checking (and other functions) (see also here).
